US federation of pétanque regional tournament in Austin mid-May

“For the first time in Texas, we will have the Federation of Pétanque USA‘s Regional tournaments coming to Austin” on May the 16th, announced the city’s Heart of Texas pétanque club on its blog.

Demonstrating Austin’s strong commitment to the French game, the competition will take place just one month after the HOT pétanque club’s annual tournament mid-April.

First place, Clarck Orwick
Second place, Rick Armstrong
Third place, Thierry Amisse.

The Heart of Texas Pétanque Club

Hello everyone and welcome.

The first Singles Tournament in Austin just finished.  Twenty two players showed up.  It was a fabulous day.  We started at 8:30 am and finished by 3:30 pm.   Even so, the games were not timed and played up to 13 points.  That was great, because  we had a full day of petanque and still went home early.  The winner is Clark Orwick from the famous Ded Bob Show.  I taught the game to my friend Clark about 15 years ago.  He kept on playing casually at every Renaissance Faire where he performs.  But today he showed his talent and  left no chance to any of us.  He won against some of the top players in Texas.  The final was against Rick Armstrong.  Clark started strong with a 4/0 4/2 4/4 Rick took over with a 7/4 Clark came back  7/7 and started 8/7 10/7 Rick battled…

March is also French Cultures Festival month!

In Texas, March isn’t only South by Southwest’s month. It’s also French language and culture month!

A free concert that attracted thousands at Houston Discovery Green Park on Friday officially launched the the French Cultures Festival and will again dominate the festival’s program this year. But beyond French Tech Club and French artists at South by Southwest, a lot is also happening in Austin:
