Bastille Day is around the corner!

This blog has been mostly silent this year, but couldn’t pass on the Alliance Française d’Austin’s fantastic Bastille Day celebration. It takes place at The Triangle this year. And while food and drink (like crêpes, macarons, but also lobster and grilled cheese sandwiches) are available for purchase, as usual, entrance is FREE at this new location!

So there’s no excuse for missing it (unless you have a flight to catch that day like me… Poor planning!). Raffle tickets are already for sale and a great way to support the Alliance that brings us a full line up of artists, but also a Bastille Day Market, feats by the Texas Juggling Society, pétanque demos and games, balloon twisting and a Hula Hoop Station, all near a shaded playground and a splash pad. It’s also still time to be a sponsor like the Civil Exchange Project, Trader Joe’s, WCK, Kathie Griffing Consultin and Do 512. Checks to support the Alliance Française Bastille Day Celebration may be sent to: Alliance Française d’Austin, 4101 Medical Parkway Suite 106; Austin Tx 78756.

My Angers Week picks

There will be so much going on next week as part of Angers Week. I thought I would share my picks. (Although it’s very personal and you should check the full schedule at AngersWeek.com. All events are also on the French in Austin calendar.)

There’s a lot more, and you should check the full listing of events on AngersWeek.com, Facebook or the French in Austin calendar (from which you could easily add all French-speaking and francophile events in Austin to your calendar using the Google Agenda button).

The covers for the different shows are very reasonable given the number and quality of the bands playing, but if you’re short on money and still want to attend, you could volunteer with Austin Angers Creative (the organizer of the festival) as an event floater on SignUp.com. There are also opportunities to put up flyers and posters, and to pick up artists or the Angers chef at the airport. Check them out on SignUp.com!

The Heart of Texas Pétanque Club

Hello everyone and welcome.

The first Singles Tournament in Austin just finished.  Twenty two players showed up.  It was a fabulous day.  We started at 8:30 am and finished by 3:30 pm.   Even so, the games were not timed and played up to 13 points.  That was great, because  we had a full day of petanque and still went home early.  The winner is Clark Orwick from the famous Ded Bob Show.  I taught the game to my friend Clark about 15 years ago.  He kept on playing casually at every Renaissance Faire where he performs.  But today he showed his talent and  left no chance to any of us.  He won against some of the top players in Texas.  The final was against Rick Armstrong.  Clark started strong with a 4/0 4/2 4/4 Rick took over with a 7/4 Clark came back  7/7 and started 8/7 10/7 Rick battled…
