My Angers Week picks

There will be so much going on next week as part of Angers Week. I thought I would share my picks. (Although it’s very personal and you should check the full schedule at AngersWeek.com. All events are also on the French in Austin calendar.)

There’s a lot more, and you should check the full listing of events on AngersWeek.com, Facebook or the French in Austin calendar (from which you could easily add all French-speaking and francophile events in Austin to your calendar using the Google Agenda button).

The covers for the different shows are very reasonable given the number and quality of the bands playing, but if you’re short on money and still want to attend, you could volunteer with Austin Angers Creative (the organizer of the festival) as an event floater on SignUp.com. There are also opportunities to put up flyers and posters, and to pick up artists or the Angers chef at the airport. Check them out on SignUp.com!

Movie on famous French case screening at Regal Arbor 8

In the name of my DaughterEver heard of Agnès Le Roux and Maurice Agnelet? If not, the movie In the Name of my Daughter (L’homme qu’on aimait trop) screening at Regal Arbor 8 from tomorrow (May the 22nd) will tell you the story of this incredible case set in beautiful French Riviera. And if you’ve heard of this mysterious disappearance widely talked about in France for decades, this is an opportunity to refresh your memory with a movie by reknowned André Téchiné that’s not so well rated, but features Catherine Deneuve, Guillaume Canet and promising Adèle Haenel.

NB: French In Austin’s calendar was updated with details regarding this movie as well as The French Connection screening at Alamo Drafthouse cinemas.

Angers at SxSW 2015

Austin Angers sister cities committee (aka Austin Angers Connect) finally announced Angers’ presence at South by Southwest. It’s part of the French Tech Club, and is organized by a new entity, Austin Angers Creative, bringing together different actors of the Angers tech and cultural scene. Learn more on AustinAngersConnect.com.

Remember that a wine tasting event will give a preview of Angers’ presence at SXSW tonight at Vino Vino (on top of an opportunity to sample delicious Loire valley wines!).
