My Angers Week picks

There will be so much going on next week as part of Angers Week. I thought I would share my picks. (Although it’s very personal and you should check the full schedule at AngersWeek.com. All events are also on the French in Austin calendar.)

There’s a lot more, and you should check the full listing of events on AngersWeek.com, Facebook or the French in Austin calendar (from which you could easily add all French-speaking and francophile events in Austin to your calendar using the Google Agenda button).

The covers for the different shows are very reasonable given the number and quality of the bands playing, but if you’re short on money and still want to attend, you could volunteer with Austin Angers Creative (the organizer of the festival) as an event floater on SignUp.com. There are also opportunities to put up flyers and posters, and to pick up artists or the Angers chef at the airport. Check them out on SignUp.com!

French Bistro serving its first clients

A French and an American from New York were the first clients to sit at a table of the French Bistro opened by two French chefs from Angers (Austin’s sister city in France) at the French Tech Club that’s just opened on the grounds of the French Legation.
As the Club prepares to host its first conference (on tech accelerators for social good) at 1:30PM, more clients were taking their seats, and the kitchen still smelled amazingly good!

Angers at SxSW 2015

Austin Angers sister cities committee (aka Austin Angers Connect) finally announced Angers’ presence at South by Southwest. It’s part of the French Tech Club, and is organized by a new entity, Austin Angers Creative, bringing together different actors of the Angers tech and cultural scene. Learn more on AustinAngersConnect.com.

Remember that a wine tasting event will give a preview of Angers’ presence at SXSW tonight at Vino Vino (on top of an opportunity to sample delicious Loire valley wines!).

These companies will meet professionals and learn about their way to work.
Austin Angers Creative will help French artists to play during the SXSW and try to have an opportunity in North America.

– As part of Austin Angers Cinema, a partnership is growing between Austin and Angers with Premiers Plans Festival in Angers, where Austin’s professionals are invited to discover European Cinema.

Bastille Day is around the corner!

Patriotic fireworks are over for 2014. But that doesn’t mean we have to store our three-colored attire in the closet until next 4th of July! Bastille Day is coming up really fast (it’s only ten days after Independance Day after all) and France’s national colors are the same as the American ones (no stars nor stripes though…).

Bastille Day 2014 posterI think Austin is the best place in Texas to celebrate France’s national day because we have the French Legation. Alliance française d’Austin throws a beautiful party there every year.
