“Circuit of The Americas (Cota) is bringing the “spirit of Le Mans” to the Lone Star State this Friday and Saturday for what will be a Texas-sized celebration of sports car racing and live music”, announced Cota a few months ago.
“The all new Lone Star Le Mans mixes the best of international endurance racing, like the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France, with sights, sounds and flavors as big as Texas,” continues the press release.
Here are the promises of the series, including the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and their support series:
“1. Fans will enjoy unprecedented, open access to majestic, high-tech racing machines and the skilled competitors who pilot them, including famous drivers like TV star Patrick Dempsey and former Formula 1™ driverMark Webber.
2. The Lone Star Le Mans also marks the debut of night racing at Austin’s grand prix circuit.
3. The Lone Star Le Mans will feature one of the largest collections of world-class, professional sports car teams and drivers assembled to race in North America on one day. Up to 180 unique sports cars will be on track throughout the weekend.”
So this is a very special occasion for francophiles in Austin. And the French and francophile community here is excited to attend the only North American stop for the FIA World Endurance Championship this year. Look at the exclusive guided tour of the paddock the French American Business Council of Austin has prepared for the occasion:
“If you will be present at the race please join us for this exclusive insider’s look at the paddock. See the cars, drivers and crews.
Ken Walker, an experienced and avid “gearhead” will conduct the tour. All ages welcome!
The tour will start at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 20. Please meet us at the front entrance to the Paddock Club which is just across from the medical center in the paddock. Look for the orange and white “Angers” banner promoting our sister city just “down the road” from Le Mans.
This exclusive tour is available for persons already attending the Lone Star Le Mans event. As a friend of FABCA you can buy reserved seating tickets for the Lone Star Le Mans event at our group rate of $59 instead of the normal ticket price of $79. Please contact Adam Naasz, Group Ticket Sales COTA, at email@example.com. and mention your affiliation with The French American Business Council of Austin.”
Additionnaly, “the French American Business Council of Austin will be sponsoring a tour of two of the pits at the Lone Star Le Mans race on Friday September 19 at noon, Krohn Racing and Risi Competizione, both based in Texas, the latest having won the 24h of Le Mans twice.
The tour is open for the first 20 people who register for the event. You must already have purchased tickets and be present at the race in order to sign up for the tour.”
You need to RSVP for that part of the two-days event. You can do so on the FABCA’s website or (if it’s last minute) by contacting FABCA member Xavier Borkowski at firstname.lastname@example.org before Friday 9AM.
Meeting for that event is at the same place, by the helipad, at the entrance of the paddocks.
