As expected, there’s been a nice crowd at the French American Business Council of Austin‘s launch at Norton, Rose and Fulbright on Tuesday night. It’s been a good networking event for me, following everything French in Austin. And, more important, the Austin mayor, consul of France in Houston, honorary consul in Austin and FABC board member Liz Wiley (picture) gave good speeches and presentations. While the food and wine provided by Pascal’s Catering and Central Market were excellent.
There’s still a lot of work to convince all French-American businesses in Austin to join the new organization. (You don’t do that with good wine and food, although it’s a minimum for the French…)
But the consul and the mayor had good points reminding everyone about France’s presence in Austin and the importance of existing commercial relations between France and Central Texas. The mayor said France was Austin’s first international business partner.
Assessing the attendance to the event today and trying to plan future outreach efforts today, I could list some 80 potential members. And that’s just the people in my network and the main French American businesses in Austin that we talked about in the exploratory discussions…
I look forward to that organization taking shape!
